What is
Screen Printing?
Screen printing is an in-depth process that utilizes mesh screens to print onto garments.
At Shirt Shanty, located in Atlanta, GA, our professional silk screen printing services start with you! When a customer places an order, one of our skilled designers will translate the customer’s idea into a screen printable design.
After the design is approved, each color in the art will be printed on a separate, clear piece of film and taken to the dark room. Next, the film is used to burn onto screens that are prepared with light sensitive emulsion. This makes the screen capture the image printed on the film when exposed to light.
Screen printing is great for flat goods like t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, etc.
A different screen is burned for each color in the design. Our machines can handle up to 6 screens at a time meaning 6 colors is the maximum amount for screen printing (if you’re looking for more that 6 colors head to DTG).
The screen is washed out and basically becomes a large stencil. Each screen is set up on one of our automatic presses and aligned to each other. The corresponding ink is then placed in each screen.
A squeegee pushes the ink through the stencil in the screen, printing the design onto the garment. The machine revolves the garment around to the other screens until every color is applied.
Lastly, the garment is placed on our industrial dryer in which the ink will cure at a high temperature. The order is then packed up and completed.
There are a lot of factors that go into creating a custom screen print order on time for our customers. Our standard turn-around time for screen printing is two weeks.
